Do not admire the concept. Make it survive contact.
Every case is passed through the same diagnostic chamber: what is maintained, what pays, what disappears at cessation, and which neighbouring failure it excludes.

Sodium Acetate Beaker
A glass beaker holds supersaturated sodium acetate trihydrate—heated to transparency, cooled undisturbed, thermodynamically unstable, structurally uncommitted. Ions drift in hydrogen-bonded hydration shells whose geometry costs nothing to maintain: below the fold, immortal at the grain. A seed crystal at the nucleation threshold triggers lattice commitment; heat radiates through glass at roughly 264 kJ/kg as the growth front deposits layer on layer. Multiple fronts may collide; grain boundaries can become a third defect-topological regime paying surface energy at reduced closure grade. What is maintained is long-range crystallographic order and, at boundaries, constraint-architecture irreducible to parent lattices. Payment is crystallisation enthalpy at the active front, not continuous metabolic rent. Cease the front and heat stops; dissolve the lattice and cloudy seams anneal away—front cessation, lattice dissolution, annealing of defect architecture.
